Add a Weather Gadget to Google IG

If you use Google Personalized Homepage, you might want to add a weather gadget. The easiest way to add one is search Google using the keyword weather yourCity, where yourCity is the name of the city you want to look for weather info of. If Google has the weather info, you will see something like the picture below.

Click on Add to my homepage and it will be added to your Google IG. If you want to add another city, just do the search again with the city and add it again. It will not add a new gadget but will add a new entry for the city in the gadget.

EPL Title Race Coming to a Close

The win over Everton and Chelsea's draw with Bolton (Bolton always seems to be a great trouble to Chelsea) have made ManU sitting at the top five points clear of its opponent. Just 3 more games to go, the title race between ManU and Chelsea is really coming to a close by now.

The second goal from Everton and the third goal from ManU are really great, especially how Rooney finished the goal was fantastic. I would also say Eagles' goal was also a great one.

Auld Lang Syne

This is not the time of the year to sing this song though. But, I just love this instrumental rendition of my all-time favorite song.

Amazing survival

This is an amazing survival of a driver who was stuck inside a crashed car under a very heavy container. He was very lucky just to have survived, but what's more surprising is that he didn't even had a scratch in the whole accident.

See Day and Night Side-by-side

I got this picture, an exceptional shot of the Earth's Day and Night side-by-side, from a blog post here. Below is the description from the original blog.

The photograph attached was taken by the crew on board the Columbia
During its last mission, on a cloudless day.
The picture is of Europe and Africa when the sun is setting.
Half of the picture is in night. The bright dots you see are the cities' lights.

The top part of Africa is the Sahara Desert. Note that the lights are already on in Holland, Paris, and Barcelona,And that's its still daylight in Dublin, London, Lisbon, and Madrid.

The sun is still shining on the Strait of Gibraltar. The Mediterranean Sea is Already in darkness.

In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean you can see the Azores Islands;
Below them to the right are the Madeira Islands ; a bit below are the
Canary Islands; and further South, close to the farthest western point
Of Africa, are the Cape Verde Islands?

Note that the Sahara is huge and can be seen clearly both during
Day time and night time.

To the left, on top, is Greenland, totally frozen.

New Google Search Interface

Google is testing a new interface for Web Search. It has a cleaner look than the previous ones but the footer of the new interface is having some problems since I have seen many complaints about it being left-aligned rather than centered and about showing the total result at the bottom of the page instead of the top.

Google is pushing Gmail a lot with this new interface since mail is the center of all Google services including the Search itself. They are also pushing Calendar and Docs together with Gmail although they are not as prominently linked as Gmail.

Overall, I love the new interface which shows contextual search refinements based on the search keywords and which is much cleaner than the previous one. Just that I wish Google will center-align the footer as it was before.

To try the new interface, copy the following code:

javascript:document.cookie= "PREF=ID=fddb01133a87d314:LD=en:CR=2:TM=1177334998:LM=1177334998:GM=1:S=OOg0FEVzpPplxe9J; path=/; domain=.google.com";void(0);

and go to www.google.com/ncr and paste it to the address bar and press Enter. The code will store a cookie in your browser to force Google to use the new interface when you later search. The new interface will persist until you erase your cookies.

MIT Dean of Admissions Admits Fake Credentials

This piece of news I got from Digg came as a surprise when I first saw it. After reading the whole article, I came to understand her situation better, and it reminded me of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

Marilee Jones, a prominent crusader against the pressure on students to build their resumes for elite colleges, resigned Thursday as dean of admissions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology after acknowledging she had misrepresented her own academic credentials. [Read On]

How many more holding high ranks have such fake credentials and find themselves in a deadlock?

Road to Wembley

Man Utd has advanced to the FA cup final after a 4-1 win over the Premier League underdog Watford last night. Despite the loss, I admire the only goal from Watford; it was a great goal against the Red Devils.

New Int'l Express Mail Service in Burma

Myanmar has opened a new international express mail service to send articles from the new capital and the second capital (which is Mandalay) to 102 countries worldwide including Europe and the America. As usual, the articles to be sent will be checked for safety measures. This is a good initiative run by state since to send to and from Mandalay to(from) foreign countries has been a pain in the past years.

What is interesting about this new service is that the service charges for the services are to be paid in foreign exchange. In a country where holding foreign exchange is illegal, who can pay for this service in foreign exchange? Only the officials who are authorized by the government to hold the foreign currencies will then be able to use this service since any civilian using this service will be breaking the law that prohibits them from holding foreign currency. :D

News snippet from "People's Daily Online":

Myanmar has opened a new international express mail service to link the new capital of Nay Pyi Taw and the second largest city of Mandalay with the outside world, said the local-language Myanmar Times pre-published on Wednesday.

Articles and parcels from the two locations can be safely mailed to 102 countries in continents covering Europe, America, Australia, Asia and the Middle East in a short duration of time depending on the distances between the country of sender and that of receiver, the report said.

Service charges for the express mail service are to be paid in foreign exchange, the report quoted the state-run Express Mail Services (EMS) International as saying.

Bush Fails Again

This is not a Google Bomb though. It just so happened that the word "failure" appears on the President page of the White House, making it a relevant search result (which on mine is the first result).

It seems like Bush just can't escape from "failure(s)".

Gmail Quick Links

Google has once again changed the quick links on the upper left corner of the Gmail interface. This time, most people get consistent links--the same links and the same relative position of the links. It seems like after experimenting with random links for a number of weeks, Google has decided which links to include in the Quick Link permanently (at least for now).

Picnik - an online photo editor

Picnik is an online photo editor which can do most basic photo editing featured in Google Picasa. And it is super fast once you have uploaded your photo (or you can either grab a pic from your Picasa Web album or from Flicker).

That's a really cool web application and you can use it for fast editing when you can't install a editing software on a shared computer.
