New Int'l Express Mail Service in Burma

Myanmar has opened a new international express mail service to send articles from the new capital and the second capital (which is Mandalay) to 102 countries worldwide including Europe and the America. As usual, the articles to be sent will be checked for safety measures. This is a good initiative run by state since to send to and from Mandalay to(from) foreign countries has been a pain in the past years.

What is interesting about this new service is that the service charges for the services are to be paid in foreign exchange. In a country where holding foreign exchange is illegal, who can pay for this service in foreign exchange? Only the officials who are authorized by the government to hold the foreign currencies will then be able to use this service since any civilian using this service will be breaking the law that prohibits them from holding foreign currency. :D

News snippet from "People's Daily Online":

Myanmar has opened a new international express mail service to link the new capital of Nay Pyi Taw and the second largest city of Mandalay with the outside world, said the local-language Myanmar Times pre-published on Wednesday.

Articles and parcels from the two locations can be safely mailed to 102 countries in continents covering Europe, America, Australia, Asia and the Middle East in a short duration of time depending on the distances between the country of sender and that of receiver, the report said.

Service charges for the express mail service are to be paid in foreign exchange, the report quoted the state-run Express Mail Services (EMS) International as saying.

Until then...
