New Google Search Interface

Google is testing a new interface for Web Search. It has a cleaner look than the previous ones but the footer of the new interface is having some problems since I have seen many complaints about it being left-aligned rather than centered and about showing the total result at the bottom of the page instead of the top.

Google is pushing Gmail a lot with this new interface since mail is the center of all Google services including the Search itself. They are also pushing Calendar and Docs together with Gmail although they are not as prominently linked as Gmail.

Overall, I love the new interface which shows contextual search refinements based on the search keywords and which is much cleaner than the previous one. Just that I wish Google will center-align the footer as it was before.

To try the new interface, copy the following code:

javascript:document.cookie= "PREF=ID=fddb01133a87d314:LD=en:CR=2:TM=1177334998:LM=1177334998:GM=1:S=OOg0FEVzpPplxe9J; path=/; domain=.google.com";void(0);

and go to www.google.com/ncr and paste it to the address bar and press Enter. The code will store a cookie in your browser to force Google to use the new interface when you later search. The new interface will persist until you erase your cookies.

Until then...

Justin
